A gentle introduction to the art of weaving
A slow and creative space to learn, experiment and develop your own woven piece.
These private 1:1 weaving sessions are an invitation to slow down, work with your hands and explore the beautiful, tactile world of textiles.
Over four 2-hour sessions, you'll be gently introduced to the foundations of frame weaving, while having the time and space to experiment with colour, texture, yarn and meaningful materials.
Weaving is one of the oldest human crafts, with roots tracing back over 40,000 years to early civilisations. Long before it became a textile practice, it was a language of survival and storytelling carrying memory, identity and belonging. Across landscapes and continents, weaving evolved, shaping the cultural identities of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece and Rome
THE WEAVING JOURNEY
Your four sessions give you the space to learn at a gentle pace, experiment with different techniques and gradually develop your own woven piece.
You'll receive your own frame loom to work with throughout the sessions, which is yours to keep.
Session One
We'll meet the loom and explore the foundations of weaving.
You'll learn how to prepare your loom, create the warp and begin weaving, while getting to know different yarns, textures and simple techniques.
Session Two
We'll play with colour, texture, pattern and different ways of working with yarn.
This is a chance to experiment without worrying about the finished result and discover what naturally draws your eye.
Session Three
As your weaving grows, we'll explore how to bring your chosen colours, textures and materials together.
I'll offer guidance and ideas while giving you plenty of space to develop the piece in your own way.
Session Four
We'll take time to bring your weaving towards completion, learning how to finish and secure your work.
We'll step back and spend some time with the finished piece :: celebrating the process, the materials and everything that has emerged along the way.
A SPACE TO CREATE
Weaving can be a wonderfully slow and grounding creative practice.
There is something about the simple rhythm of passing thread through thread, building colour and texture little by little, that invites us to slow down and become absorbed in the making.
You don't need to consider yourself an artist or have any previous experience with weaving.
This is simply a space to learn, experiment, play and make something with your hands.
You are also welcome to bring meaningful fabrics, old textiles, ribbons or other small materials you'd like to incorporate into your weaving.
